Herrenchiemsee Palace
The solitary island Herrenchiemsee in beautiful lake Chiemsee was bought in 1873
by King Ludwig II. Of Bavaria. He wanted to realize one of his dreams, his own copy
of Versailles Palace. In its monumental architecture and opulent furnishings this
palace became the young Bavarian King’s most sumptuous one. All over, also in the
park, reference is made to the French Bourbon Kings whom he greatly admired. The
romantic place, which can be reached by passenger boats is one of the touristic
highlights south of Munich.

In 1948, the convention to prepare the Constitution of the Federal Republic of
Germany took place in a former monastery on Herrenchiemsee island. This is
documented in a museum at the original venue.
