Ettal Monastery
The surprisingly large, majestic monastery church of Ettal is located about 10
kilometers north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In the year 1330 Emperor Ludwig the
Bavarian founded a monastery on a mountain pass. Ever since then Benedictine
monks reside and work there. They run a beer brewery, liqueur brewery, the Hotel
“Ludwig der Bayer”, a boarding school and a well equipped souvenir and book shop.
