In Munich, so beautifully located on the banks of the river Isar and close to the
Bavarian Alps, modern progress unites with traditions of the past. It was Emperor
Frederick the Red Beard who in 1158 established Munich. For more than 730
years, until the end of World War I, the aristocratic family Wittelsbach ruled Bavaria.
From 1933 to 1945, during the 12 years of the National Socialist regime, Munich was
named Capital of the NS Movement. From 1945 onwards, Bavaria, then US Military
occupied zone, and its capital Munich rose again from chaos and rubble with
the help of the US Military Government.

The prosperous town of Munich counts about 1.4 million inhabitants (in 2014). Many
world famous firms have their place of business in Munich. There are about 80
museums and art galleries. Bavaria’s famous “liquid bread” is sold in the Munich
traditional restaurants, the big beer halls, the beer gardens and at the
“Viktualienmarkt” together with local and international delicacies.
In the surrounding picturesque rural area, lakes, charming old fashioned villages,
historic palaces and castles invite excursions.
From Munich, located in the heart of Europe many attractive destinations are within
easy reach, e.g. Salzburg, Vienna, Strasbourg, Zurich, Budapest and Prague.
